Our main heroine Yuuki Cross, one of the prefects and also the adopted daughter of the Headmaster Kaien Cross was saved as a child from a bloodthirsty vampire by Kaname Clan. Hence for this very reason she adores him in many more ways than a crush at the same time being obvious to the fact that he is a vampire, a pureblood one. While the other prefect Zero Kiryu who comes from a long lineage of Vampire hunters had his family killed by a vile vampire which makes him despise them to their very bones.
The Cross Academy built with the hope of Vampires and Humans co-existing peacefully, will it truly exist?

As I mentioned this is a review, so don't expect me to write long detailed paragraphs on their personalities and what not.
The main heroine Yuuki Cross seems okay-ish to me. If possible a more of a typical charcter in animes as we see it. She is poor in her studies but takes her duties as prefect seriously. The fact that she is the headmaster's daughter only strenghtens her sriousness more. Also like all other typical heroines, she makes it her problem whenever her friend is having one. Seroiusly I hate this trait very much. When others don't want you to interfere in their matters no matter how bad it is, why the Fish won't they just agree and leave them to it? She loves the pureblood vampire, Kaname Clan despite having seen his vampiric nature and even offered her friend Zero to drink her blood when he was about to succumb to the lowest level of vampire. She cares for Zero too much hence always wanting to get close to him and asking him to fight with the demon inside him till the end even though he gives her many chances to kill him. There have been hints of her blood being special since so many vampires find it so tempting. Unfortunately I knew shocking secret about her before having even watched the anime while I was reading its comments. Stupid idiot user who blatantly put it on the forum for the whole naive readers to see. Since this is only of Season 1 I won't tell you about it but if you want to ruin your fun go ahead and be my guest.
Kiryu Zero, one of the other main characters is cold and harsh towards everyone. He's been traumatized by the incident four years ago where his whole family is murdered. He thinks Vampires are beasts disguised in the form of human and for this very reason he hates them so much. It doesn't help that he was bitten by that very same Vampire he despised so much slowly turning him into one. However due to his deep hatred for them and not wanting to turn into one he manages to control himself for the past four years through his strong willpower alone. Sadly, he loses it soon since the tablets used to control Vampire's thirst for blood doesn't work for him as his body is not able to process it. Yuuki kindly offers him her blood not wanting him to turn into a level E vampire but he refuses countless times but later on he succumbs to it. Poor guy, I really feel sorry for him, hating a race so much with burning passion but later on discovering himself to be one of them. Can you even imagine?
Kaname Clan, the other main character is kind towards Yuuki as it was he who protected her from a vampire when she was five. He loves Yuki as we see it and does not treat his other subordinates with the same way he does with her. He's mentioned it once that she possesses warmth others do not. We don't know much about him as we do about Zero in Season 1. We do know that he is a pureblood and as one has countless powers, one of them being able to control the other Vampires and also being able to turn a human he's bitten into his own kind. He also brought Yuki to the Headmaster. As he learns that Zero's drunk her blood he assigns him to be her shield as one of the elites of the Vampires. Quite a loving, gentle yet strong and firm character if I may say so.
The other students of the Night class are also shown now and then throughout Season 1 but their characters are not that properly introduced. Maybe it's just Season 1 and they have the whole manga so I guess, throughout time their nature and background are also shown slowly. The Night class is only attented by Nobles and above and for that very reason they have special powers. One of the guys Shiki pricks his finger and slowly he drags out a long stream of blood from his body controlling the liquid and using it like a whip. I seriously thought I'd die from disgust. I just can't stand blood. Whenever I see it, I suddenly feel nauseated and feel like throwing though no vomit comes up. However, I think I'll forgive him since he's so handsome.
Throughout the story
I was fine. I was not that expecting or that eager to watch the next episode. Season 1 only contains 13 episodes so maybe if the story gets more interesting after that I have nothing to say but the first 13 episodes seriously had me going blank. It was not that interesting to watch. You guys may think why I even bothered, its because I'd already bought the DVD and so I could not let my money got to waste. *sob sob* Also I found Yuuki's train of thought so depressing. All the time, she's like please don't let this happen or why is this happening. Also the mood of the story throughout the first 13 episodes was dark. Not so dark to the point that you want to die but just not so happy, I know its a vampire anime but seriously they'll have that tension, that romance but over here even when they showed such serious situations I was like "Uh-huh! Seroiusly?" I guess the anime could be rated a bit since there are scenes where they show drinking blood. Also when the vampires drink the blood for some reason I found it so sensually aousing. I was like you're kidding me right? Please tell me, this is so not happening. Maybe the story line was not that interesting but on the plus point they do have an amazing cast of gorgeous vampires.
However, if you can't use that cast I'm sad to say its a flop.
